"Many people know The Children's Institute of Pittsburgh as the place for amazing kids. But an amazing place for amazing kids needs to have an amazing staff, including its nurses," states a story by Hilary Daninhirsch in the Sunday, May 1, 2022 issue of the
Pittsburgh Post-Gazette in which the newspaper published a special section to celebrate nurses for National Nurses Week.
One of those nurses was The Children's Institute's very own Marie Fetsick, a nurse in The Day School, who has spent most of her 25-year career at our amazing place.
"In high school, I knew I wanted to work with children and be in the medical field, so nursing clicked for me,' Fetsick said in the story.
What has kept her here for so many years? Fetsick attributes much of the success in her job to being part of an amazing, collaborative team at The Children's Institute. "I certainly rely on other nurses; we have an awesome team here. It really is a team concept," she said.
While nursing is not always an easy job, it is rewarding. For Fetsick, the students she works with keep her going. "I love our students; I love this population. I get to know the kids better than if I worked in a public school. I can walk down the halls and know every student," she said.
