A Day with the Pittsburgh Pirates

Posted: Oct 07, 2014 by The Children's Institute

Sunday, September 14th was a special day for the Prader-Willi syndrome community in Pittsburgh, because we were able to meet up with our favorite baseball team: the Pittsburgh Pirates! Pirates Charities hosted kids and families from the PA chapter of the Prader-Willi Syndrome Association for a fun filled day at PNC Park. The Children’s Institute’s patients with Prader-Willi Syndrome were lucky enough to be personally invited to spend the day with Pirates’ manager Clint Hurdle and assistant coaches.

It was a beautiful, sunny day at PNC Park and we took full advantage by participating in amazing new activities. We began the day by engaging in small-group activities such as stretching, catching, throwing, batting, and running the basesled by the Pirates coaches. Next, we took pictures with Clint Hurdle and the coaches and received autographs that we will cherish forever. Finally, we ended the afternoon with a private “Just Ducky” tour, which took us all around Pittsburgh and taught us tons of new facts about our one and only Steel City.

We had such an amazing, active, exciting day and we never could have done it without Clint Hurdle and the Pirates Charities. A fun day in the sun was exactly what we needed to show awareness, get involved, and get our feet moving!
