Pediatric Concussion Care
When dealing with a concussion, you need nothing less than exceptional care. At The Children’s Institute, we make sure children and adolescents
with concussions get the quality care they need. As a leader in providing comprehensive rehabilitative care, we are constantly looking to improve
the treatment our patients receive. With a team of specialists on staff that includes occupational therapists, speech/language pathologists,
physical therapists, physicians and neuropsychologists, we create the ideal treatment plan for each individual.
We offer:
> Multi-disciplinary cognitive and physical rehabilitation
> Cognitive and communication assessment and treatment by a certified speech/language pathologist to evaluate and remediate any aspect of
language or thinking that may have been disrupted
> Assessment and treatment of visual, motor, cognitive, and sensory processing skills by an occupational therapist to assist the child
in returning to independence with personal care, leisure activities, and community integration
> Strength, balance, endurance, and coordination assessment and treatment by a physical therapist in order to help the child return to
previous physical activities
Pre-screening Services
Pre-screening services are offered at all four of our outpatient locations – Bridgeville, Irwin, Wexford and Squirrel Hill – from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m.
The computerized ImPACT test takes approximately 30 minutes to complete, after which we offer a balance screen that will take approximately
15 minutes. Both the ImPACT scores and balance scores are provided to the family/caregiver immediately following the testing; the caregiver
is to maintain the records from the testing. This is a fee-for-service program, with the $25 cost due at time of service.
