The Nimick Family Therapeutic Garden opens with fanfare
Wednesday, Jun 22, 2011
After three years of planning and 18 months of building and planting, the 10,000-square-foot Nimick Family Therapeutic Garden stretching along the Shady Avenue façade of our Squirrel Hill facility was officially dedicated and opened on June 18, 2011.
Attending the private dedication and ribbon cutting ceremony were 130 guests. WTAE-TV and KDKA-TV were here to document the event, capturing footage that aired during the evening news.
The Nimick Family Therapeutic Garden was named in honor of the late Thomas H. Nimick Jr. and his late wife Florence Lockhart Nimick. It was made possible by the lead gift from Nimick Forbesway Foundation – Charles L.H. Nimick, Victoria Nimick Enright and Cathleen (Kit) Nimick, Trustees. The beautiful garden is a fitting tribute to their parents, who contributed 74 years of combined service to The Children’s Institute.
