The Career Education Teacher develops and completes transition plans, student vocational/career/life skills assessments and activities, in-school and out-of-school short-term work trial placements, workshop activities, part-time vocational training placements and job placements, and in some situations can serve as job coach for work trials. The Career Education Teacher teaches career education classes as needed. The Career Education Teacher reports student results to the Transition Coordinator, Classroom Teacher and Educational Supervisor to assure that programs are modified to reflect student needs and ability.
RESPONSIBLE TO: Transition Coordinator, Associate Chief School Administrator, Educational Supervisor, Chief School Administrator (in that order)
WORKERS SUPERVISED: University Interns and Student Teachers and Educational Paraprofessionals
EDUCATION: A Bachelor’s degree in Special Education from an approved college or university and certification in the State of Pennsylvania in Special Education. Current and valid certification in First Aid and CPR is required (will provide training).
TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE: Experience working with handicapped children is required. Familiarity with vocational/career/life skills assessments and teaching activities is preferred.
PHYSICAL: The ability to lift, position, and feed students with handicaps, assist them physically in transferring to and from wheelchairs to other equipment, and lifting on to and off of school transportation vehicles. Willingness and ability to assist students with feeding and toileting needs. Must be able to perform as noted on the attached Physical Demands' Sheet.
