The Teacher endeavors to identify, through prescribed means, the strengths and weaknesses of the child, and then, through individualized programs, help that child to attain his or her maximum potential. He or she works with other staff members as an integral part of a professional team to provide an appropriate educational program for each child.
RESPONSIBLE TO: Educational Supervisor, Associate Chief School Administrator, Chief School Administrator (in that order).
WORKERS SUPERVISED: Educational Paraprofessionals
EDUCATION: A Bachelor's degree in Special Education from an approved college or university and certification in the State of Pennsylvania in Special Education (or appropriate subject area). Master's degree in Special Education is preferred. Current and valid certification in CPR and First Aid is required (will provide training).
TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE: At least one year of successful experience in Special Education is required two or more years experience in Special Education preferred.
PHYSICAL: The ability to lift, position, and feed students with handicaps, assist them physically in transferring to and from wheelchairs to other equipment, and lifting on to and off of school transportation vehicles. Willingness and ability to assist students with feeding and toileting needs. Must be able to perform as noted on attached Physical Demands Sheet.
