Staff

A major strength of The Day School is our staff.

All of our teachers are certified in the areas in which they teach — with the majority of our teaching staff possessing master’s degrees. Therapists are all appropriately certified and/or licensed to provide services in either public or private schools in Pennsylvania. Our school administrative staff also holds appropriate certification as teachers, elementary or secondary school administrators, special education supervisors or some combination of those credentials.

One unusual feature of our school is the number of paraprofessionals who hold college degrees or have completed some college training. These well-educated, well-trained and dedicated individuals work alongside our teachers and therapists throughout the school.

Continuity and commitment

The strength of the programs and services offered by our school is due, in part, to the stability of our teaching, therapy and support staff. The Day School experiences very little turnover of professional staff. The average length of service for many of our teachers and therapists is more than 10 years.

Ongoing training and in-service

All of our staff members — professional and paraprofessional alike—are provided with ongoing training in curriculum, behavior support, specialized feeding issues and numerous other areas relevant to their work with our students. The Day School also develops state-mandated Professional Development Plans and follows those plans to ensure that our staff remains up-to-date with best practices and cutting-edge techniques in the fields of special education and related services.
