Our Approach

The needs of our students are the priority of every member of our classroom team.
At The Day School, we pride ourselves on the success of our transdisciplinary team approach. All of our professionals, paraprofessionals, volunteers, student teachers and others are expected to do whatever is needed for a student in our school at any time. Planning is done jointly with the teacher and the therapists, and, as appropriate, can include paraprofessional staff, parents and additional teachers.
Using our approach, general goals, specific language/communication objectives, lesson plans and activities come from the classroom team sharing their expertise. While individual teams may create their own working system of meetings, planning and getting the job done — shared responsibility is a requirement, and mutual respect is established immediately.
Flexibility in role definition is key to the success of the Transdisciplinary Team Approach. Our expectation is that any staff member will step in and do what needs to be done for a student or group of students regardless of the staff member's title, degree or discipline.
