Job Summary

Provides and supervises delivery of clinical and rehabilitation nursing care to pediatric and young adult patients in collaboration with the multi-disciplinary team. Effectively demonstrates patient centered and goal directed nursing care. Applies evidence-based practice in support of quantitative patient outcomes. Demonstrates professional demeanor and strong team participation. Adheres to the mission and values of the organization.

Job Relationships

Responsible To: Team Leader, Clinical Leader, Unit Manager, Director of Nursing

Workers Supervised: Licensed practical nurses, health care worker, students and volunteers.


Education: Graduate of an approved school of nursing. BSN preferred.

Licensure: Current Pennsylvania registered nurse license in good standing.

Certification: N/A

Clearances: Act 73 FBI, Act 34 Criminal Clearance, Act 33 Child Clearance

**Clearances must be obtained within 30 days of hire in order to continue active employment.

Training and Experience: Minimum of one year rehabilitation and/or medical/surgical experience preferred. Graduate nurses or nurses with less than one year behavioral health experience may be recruited at the discretion of the unit manager with approval by the Director of Nursing.

Job Responsibilities

•Demonstrates proficient medical, psychiatric/behavioral nursing skills in caring for patients including pediatric, young adult and adult age groups.
•Participates in the age specific assessment, planning, intervention and evaluation of patient care.
•Demonstrates critical thinking in the evaluation, interpretation and reporting of laboratory values.
•Initiates and participates in patient/family teaching programs appropriate for their level of understanding.
•Conducts formal and informal family interactions in a constructive manner.
•Completes or facilitates activities of daily living, medical treatments and rehabilitation prescriptions to maximize patient functioning.
•Possesses an understanding of the Autism Spectrum disorders, Acquired Brain Injury, Spinal Cord Injury, Assistive Respiratory Care, Amplified Paid Disorder, Functional Feeding, Neonatal Abstinence Syndrome, Non-Ambulatory patient populations, and appropriately applies knowledge to patient care situations.
•Applies safe physical interventions with unpredictable and potentially aggressive patients in collaboration with other team members of the health care team.
•Ensures a safe environment for patients, families and staff and follows through on all safety procedures appropriate for the patient's condition and age/developmental level.
•Maintains all requirements of registered nurse licensure including current CPR certification and functions within the legal boundaries of nursing.
