The Clinical Dietitian plans, directs and provides nutritional care to patients, including nutritional evaluations, developing treatment plans, implementing treatment plans, and providing nutrition education when appropriate. The clinical dietitian provides services to infants, children, adolescents and young adults following the guidelines of the departmental scope of service.The clinical dietitian participates in interdisciplinary treatment programs, collaborates and consults with others to facilitate the delivery of therapy services; administers procedures necessary to process patient services; participates in training activities for family members and other professionals.

Job Relationships

Responsible To: Director of Clinical Nutrition Services

Workers Supervised: Non-professional staff, students and volunteers

Qualifications

Education: Bachelor's Degree in nutrition related field from an approved college or university is required; Registration with the Commission on Dietetic Registration

Licensure: Must be licensed or eligible for licensure in Pennsylvania

Certification: Current and valid certification in CPR and First Aid is required (will provide training).

Clearances: Act 73 FBI*Act 34 Criminal Clearance*Act 33 Child Clearance

Training and Experience: Previous experience in rehabilitation setting and with pediatric population preferred.

Job Responsibilities

•Conducts comprehensive nutrition evaluation
•Identifies measurable goals and develops a treatment plan in collaboration with the patient/family
•Implements treatment plan of care and adjusts treatment goals and interventions.
•Will use objective data to assess patient’s frequency and duration of care to optimize therapy benefit, considering clinical and financial factors
•Prepares and plans for discharge during the course of treatment and initiates discharge when indicated
•Completes all patient documentation accurately and within facility time frames
•Completes all administrative documentation in an accurate and timely fashion
•Provides practical and functional education and instruction to patients and families while maintaining patient and family privacy
•Demonstrates effective professional communication with supervisor, peers, and other staff within the facility or outside agencies
• Manages time effectively and efficiently to manage assigned caseload and maintain productivity to support the goals of the department and organization
• Demonstrates flexibility in meeting patient/family and department/facility needs
• Contributes solutions to identified problems and adapts readily to change
• Follows departmental guidelines for use of Paid Time Off
• Complies with departmental and facility protocols, policies, and procedures and Code of Ethics and Guide to Practice of the professional organization
• Maintains professional boundaries with patients and families
• Participates on departmental or facility committees as appropriate
• Pursues knowledge and research relevant to areas of practice
• Participates in continuing education to remain current on theory and practice
• Participates in interdisciplinary activities and training
• Provides supervision and training to students and volunteers as assigned
