Job Summary

Provides evidence-based treatment to children and their families within an outpatient behavioral health setting

Job Relationships

Responsible To: Director of Behavioral Health Services

Works Collaboratively With: Clinical managers, patient access department, and interdisciplinary team members involved in the care and treatment of the patients.

Workers Supervised: None


Education: Master’s degree in social work, counseling, marriage and family counseling or related degree required which results in licensing.

Licensure: Master’s prepared clinician required; license such as LPC or LCSW required.

Certification: None

Clearances: Act 73 FBI*Act 34 Criminal Clearance*Act 33 Child Abuse Clearance

**Clearances must be obtained within 30 days of hire in order to continue active employment.

Training and Experience: • Three years experience working as a behavioral health clinician preferred; experience working with children/families with diverse cultures, and children with disabilities (sensory, cognitive, physical) preferred
• Credentialing with managed care organizations preferred
• Proficient in the assessment and evidence-based treatment of mental health disorders
• Has excellent knowledge of evidence-based intervention relevant to medical conditions (disease management, treatment adherence, lifestyle change)
• Is comfortable with the pace of outpatient care, working within an integrated team model and has strong communication skills
• Proficient in writing and implementing individualized treatment plans for a wide range of mental health presentations
• Has knowledge of the behavioral health continuum of care and the ability to establish linkages to multiple levels of care depending on the patient and family’s needs

Job Responsibilities

• Conducts strength-based functional assessments for new patients and families
• Provides individual or group therapy to patients based on identified need
• Completes billing, documentation, individualized treatment plans, and insurance authorization forms within specified timeframes
• Develops in partnership with the child and family crisis plans, safety plans (when needed), relapse prevention plans, and wellness plans to support maintenance of stable functioning
• Creates a discharge plan for all patients, including discharge instructions to be given to all families.
• Documents initial evaluation, patient and family progress, treatment provided and outcomes in the electronic medical record
• Identifies situations that have potential for abuse or neglect of children and responds accordingly
• Works to maintain professional competence and skills via training, continuing education, in-services and supervision
• Meets productivity targets for billable service delivery
• Complies with facility and departmental policies and procedures
• Completes all Children’s Institute’s mandatory trainings
