Job Summary

Provides and supervises delivery of clinical and psychiatric/behavioral nursing care to adult and pediatric patients in collaboration with the multi-disciplinary team. Effectively demonstrates patient centered and goal directed nursing care. Applies evidence-based practice in support of quantitative patient outcomes. Demonstrates professional demeanor and strong team participation.

Job Relationships

Responsible To: Team Leader, Unit Manager, Director of Nursing

Workers Supervised: Licensed practical nurses, therapeutic support assistants, students and volunteers.


Education: Graduate of an approved school of nursing. BSN preferred.

Licensure: Current Pennsylvania registered nurse license in good standing.

Certification: n/a

Clearances: Act 73 FBI * Act 34 Criminal Clearance * Act 33 Child Clearance

**Clearances must be obtained within 30 days of hire in order to continue active employment.

Training and Experience: Minimum of one year psychiatric and/or behavioral health management experience in a behavioral health setting and/or medical/surgical experience preferred. Graduate nurses or nurses with less than one year behavioral health experience may be recruited at the discretion of the unit manager with approval by DON

Job Responsibilities

•Possesses an understanding of Autism Spectrum disorder, Prader-Willi Syndrome, Anxiety Disorders, Depression, Bi-Polar Disorder and appropriately applies knowledge to patient care situations.
•Knowledgeable about the DHS process and guidelines for 201 voluntary and 302 involuntary commitment.
•Actively participates in the interventions of patient crisis situations.
•Safely administers medications according to the 5 rights of medication administration.
•Demonstrates competency in the administration and anticipated effects and side-effects of psychotropic medication.
•Initiates and participates in patient/family teaching programs appropriate for their level of understanding.
•Conducts formal and informal family interactions in a professional manner.
•Actively contributes to the development and implementation of the patient’s individualized treatment plan.
•Actively participates in patient centered rounds, communicates pertinent information to the interdisciplinary team.
•Maintains current and accurate nursing care plans reflective of the patient’s goals.
•Ensures effective implementation of behavioral interventions and active maintenance of therapeutic milieu.
