Events and programs at The Children’s Institute attract medical and education professionals, parents and caregivers of children with special needs, area school students and their parents, and more. Sponsorship of these events provides The Children’s Institute with unrestricted funds that help us meet pressing needs while providing a way to increase awareness of your company. At each event, nearly 200 guests stroll through the Nimick Family Therapeutic garden while they enjoy live performers musical entertainment and refreshments.
Camp Success – a day camp for children with special needs and their siblings. We receive nearly 100 applications every year for this unique summer program for low-income families who have children with disabilities. Camp Success accommodates children ages 6 through 12 with physical, sensory, emotional, behavioral and cognitive needs and their siblings.
Grand Rounds – continuing education targeted to general practitioners, family practitioners, pediatricians, physiatrists and allied health professionals to increase medical knowledge and recognize new advances in the field of pediatric rehabilitation. Grand Rounds occurs once a month at The Children’s Institute and typically draws an audience of 75 attendees.
iCan Shine™ Amazing Bike Camp – a camp to teach children with special needs how to ride a bicycle. Instructors use adapted bikes to teach children with special needs how to ride a two-wheel bike without training wheels. Each summer the camp draws 40 children and their families.
Kids on the Block/Amazing Kids Workshops – educational outreach programs that target public and private schools and children’s organizations in western Pennsylvania. This program uses puppetry, videos and in-class simulations to stimulate positive attitudes and build understanding of children with special needs.
